The AWS Class ER2553 welding wire is a duplex alloy that features around 25% chromium, 9% nickel, and 3% molybdenum, along with nitrogen to enhance pitting resistance and mechanical properties. This distinctive composition results in a balanced microstructure of austenite and ferrite, providing impressive tensile strength—typically between 95,000 and 105,000 psi (655 to 725 MPa)—along with excellent toughness and resistance to stress corrosion.
